D6 Saturday School

An extra day of learning…

D6 is a Saturday School and involves an open invitation to all pupils to attend from 9.00am for four hours extra study. D6 isn’t simply an extension of school.  It is different – no uniforms, no ‘curriculum’, and an emphasis upon social learning.  

The intention is to allow coaches and learners to work it out for themselves; to form study groups and explore learning at their own pace, and in their own direction.

The pupils determine what they need to work on and are assisted by four teaching assistants and 20 A Level students from the local sixth form college, who are paid as learning coaches.  

What happens when D6 cannot go ahead due to social distancing regulations?  Matthew Moss provides a remote learning experience which goes by the name of E6!

The attendance ranges from around 100 pupils during the Autumn Term to around 200 in the examination season, which is over a quarter of the school roll.

The D6 initiative is an extension of the pervasive culture of self-reliance at Matthew Moss, determined as we are to have our pupils leave us with both excellent academic outcomes and well-developed dispositions for a happy and productive life within British society.
