Curriculum Overview

The Physical Education Faculty aims to provide all students with a positive inclusive experience within their PE lessons and extra-curricular activities. We aim to encourage and empower young people for a life of learning and sport, in line with the school’s mission statement. We strive to ensure that each and every student has the opportunity to develop physically, cognitively, socially and morally within the faculty’s schemes of learning.

We provide a curriculum that is fit for purpose, broad and balanced, Physical Education compliments and supplements the educational mission of Matthew Moss High School.

The curriculum is designed to be enjoyable, but at the same time develop and stimulate our learners to develop knowledge; physically, cognitively, socially and emotionally. It aims to provide an equal opportunity of learning experiences in games, gymnastics, dance, athletics and outdoor education. Students will be encouraged to take on different roles and enjoy physical activity as performers, sports coaches, sports leaders and sports officials.

Lessons and schemes of learning are structured to allow students the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills within a physical education environment. The learning culture is appropriate to the age, maturity and skill level of the student, and is one where learners will develop a growth mindset through the appreciation of deliberate purposeful practice. Learners will be encouraged to demonstrate high standards in terms of learning, behaviour and appearance. The atmosphere of lessons is such that students gain confidence in physical activity in a safe environment where student success is positively reinforced.
