Why being blind, will never stop me
Azeem Amir is a truly wonderful and inspirational young man who despite being blind, has continued to succeed and wave the flag for excellence. Azeem studied at Matthew Moss High School (part of the Watergrove Trust), and gained straight A and B grades. He then progressed to studying Law at Rochdale Sixth Form College.
“Matthew Moss High School allowed me to be myself and set the foundation for my achievements”

As well as outstanding academic achievements, Azeem is a fantastic football player. At 17 he was playing for Manchester Blind FC and Merseyside Blind FC, as well as the National Blind League. He now plays for England.
Azeem even completed Tough Mudder and is the youngest blind runner to do so! The Tough Mudder website describes the event as “a series of obstacle and mud runs that will push your physical and mental limits without the pressure of competition. A community built on teamwork and overcoming obstacles, where stepping outside your comfort zone is the reward”.

2018 was another brilliant year for Azeem as he presented on TEDx in Brighton. Watch the video below.
At 22, Azeem founded his own business and launched a unique workshop programme. The workshops, delivered through his business Learn With ESS (Education, Sport and Speaking), look to address stigmatised issues surrounding disability and change perceptions through team building activities.
In December 2021, Azeem finished his studies at Salford University and completed a Masters in Digital Business, while simultaneously running his business and playing elite level football!
We are so proud of Azeem and wish him continued success in the future.
