Connections

Connections

Connections is Matthew Moss High School’s internal alternative provision, supporting learners at risk of disengagement through high-quality teaching, personalised support, and inclusive practice. Based within the school, it offers a safe, structured environment with access to core subjects, outdoor learning, and therapeutic intervention.

Learners in Key Stages 3 and 4 benefit from small-group teaching, regular mentoring, and a clear pathway back to mainstream or into post-16 education. Strong links with the wider school ensure pupils remain connected to the community and curriculum throughout their placement.

Connections has been recognised nationally as an example of effective internal alternative provision. In The Difference’s 2025 report, What Works: Four Tenets of Effective IAP, Matthew Moss High School was featured as one of four national case studies of sector-leading practice. The provision was highlighted for its clear reintegration strategy, strong outcomes in attendance and engagement, and its alignment with whole-school inclusion systems.

Connections demonstrates how inclusive, relational approaches within mainstream schools can transform outcomes for pupils most at risk of exclusion.
