Youth Members of Parliament
Excellent news for MMHS learners!
Congratulations to Nathan and Elizabeth (Year 11) and Zaina (Year 10), who have been elected as Members of Youth Parliament!
On December 7th, Elizabeth and Zaina were elected as finalists for Rochdale & Pennines MYP. Nathan was elected for the Middleton area MYP.
Elizabeth has been elected as North West Youth Service Communications Representative. She will organise “Youthforia Day ” when all MYPs (Youth Members of Parliament ) meet to discuss the manifesto and how to create change. She will be the local representative for the North West, so will have the responsibility to be the voice of the local youth.
Nathan was successfully appointed as the North West’s Inclusion Officer on Sunday, at the MYP Summit in Blackburn.
Nathan has been attending Youth Cabinet meetings every Wednesday from 6-8pm and is extremely excited to be fulfilling this role. Nathan wants to make big changes in Rochdale; with safer transport; more cycle lanes and restricted vehicles outside school at the end of the day. Nathan wants more learners to cycle to school to reduce the traffic, emissions and danger on the road.
Nathan is now considering a future in politics, here at MMHS we feel he has certainly demonstrated the AGENCY required to fulfil this dream.
They both now have to prepare their manifesto, which they will present on December 22nd. This will be recorded and the video sent to schools, so that the young people of Rochdale can vote for their choice of MYP.
On February 14th at Middleton Arena, the results will be made with the Mayor presenting the awards. Well done Elizabeth and Nathan, good luck!
