National Insect Week Celebrations
We have been celebrating National Insect Week!
We have marked The Royal Entomological Society’s annual celebration of ‘the little things that run the world’ by taking our learners out bug hunting. The Science Department led learners through a bug investigation session where they used pooters, sweep-nets, tree beating and visual searching to find insects within the school grounds.
Learners collected the data and used their findings to consolidate their recent study of ecology, including biodiversity, classification, food-webs and biological sampling.
Dr David Penny, a fellow of the Royal Entomological Society and member of the science team at Matthew Moss, also ran an insect inspired art competition. Year 8 learner Aisha won the competition and received a lovely box of butterfly chocolates to match her beautiful drawing.
We had a wonderful time celebrating and investigating the creepy crawlies of our world!
