KS4 Geography Rivers Field Trip

KS4 Geography Rivers Field Trip

Year 11 GCSE Geography groups completed a River Field Study as part of their course to support their understanding and application of knowledge for Paper 1 and Paper 3.

They spent time studying the river Great Crowden Brook and its tributaries near Glossop.  This involved them investigating the river valley and identifying the different features, for example,  ‘interlocking Spurs’ and bedload size.  They then conducted their own research to see if the river matched the expectations of the ‘Bradshaw Model’ by examining the width, depth and velocity of the river.  This involved them measuring the river and using equipment for example a ‘hydroprop’ to measure the velocity.

Learners enjoyed conducting their research and getting into the river.  They used their data to compare three sites of the river and use the data they collected to draw conclusions and evaluate their methodology.
