Katy’s Journey from the Classroom to the Courtroom
Katy Cheetham – Law Graduate and Aspiring Barrister
We are celebrating the wonderful achievements of Katy Cheetham, a former Matthew Moss learner and recent Law graduate from the University of Leeds.
Discovering Passions
Katy highlighted the support of her teachers at Matthew Moss who pushed her to achieve her goals.
‘The engagement within the classroom and opportunity to debate highlighted my passion for public speaking.’
After leaving Matthew Moss, Katy worked as a D6 coach where she had the opportunity to support younger learners with their school work.
‘The opportunity to work at D6 also highlighted my passion for helping others, giving advice and explaining things to others in simpler terms.’
Entering the Legal Field
After leaving high school in 2019, Katy went on to study Law at the University of Leeds, gaining her LLB Law degree in 2024.
Katy gained experience in the legal field after university through her role as a paralegal where she supported victims of domestic violence.
Giving Back
Alongside her full time role, Katy dedicated her time to volunteering at local courts and Citizens Advice to help others and gain experience.
She was also instrumental in running a charity which aimed to help state school students break into professionals typically dominated by privately educated students.
Courtroom Aspirations
Katy is now returning to the University of Leeds to complete her Bar course and Masters in Law which will officially qualify her as a barrister.
