From Matthew Moss High School to Future GP: Meet Aalia!

From Matthew Moss High School to Future GP: Meet Aalia!

After leaving school in 2015, I continued my studies at Rochdale Sixth Form College, where I studied A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Maths, achieving grades AAA.

During my time at sixth form, I took part in the Manchester Access Programme (MAP), which helped me explore higher education opportunities, and prepare for applying to study Medicine at university.

In 2017, I went to University of Manchester and graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB). Throughout my time at university, I was involved in supporting others alongside my studies. I worked as a university ambassador, helping to encourage and support prospective students, and I also tutored GCSE students.

Following graduation, I began my career as a doctor and completed my Foundation Training. I have now been working as a doctor for four years and am currently completing my General Practice training. I am one year away from qualifying as a General Practitioner.

My journey from leaving school to where I am today has been shaped by love and support from family friends, mentors and opportunities I was able to access through education.

My school played a huge part in helping me achieve my goals, both academically and personally. I genuinely loved my time there — I made some wonderful friends, created amazing memories, and had the privilege of being taught by some truly inspiring teachers.

I achieved A–A* grades across six GCSEs and earned a Distinction in BTEC PE, a subject I particularly enjoyed thanks to the engaging and fun way it was taught. My English teacher also played a big role in helping me develop a genuine love of reading, which has stayed with me beyond school. I am also grateful to my maths and science teachers for building my confidence and encouraging me to challenge myself.

I am incredibly grateful to all the teachers who supported me along the way, especially those who stayed after school to offer extra help and always pushed me to become the best version of myself.
