Duke of Edinburgh 2023
Learners have now completed the expedition section of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. This consisted of a practice expedition from school to Ashworth valley and then an assessed expedition around the hills of Hebden Bridge.
They were all self-sufficient, carrying all their own kit including tents and cooking equipment and they all cooked and prepared their own meals. They battled on through heavy rain and some gruelling hills on both days, especially when climbing out of Hebden Bridge centre. They camped overnight in the secluded and beautiful woods of Hardcastle Crags.
On the second day they took in some amazing views of the Calder Valley and passed through the historic village of Heptonstall before arriving back at the train station for the train home to Castleton. They all showed amazing commitment and resilience and were a credit to themselves and the school.
