Awards’ Evening 2023

Awards’ Evening 2023

On Thursday 30th November 2023, Matthew Moss High School held our GCSE Awards’ Evening and we had the great pleasure to welcome back our Year 11 learners of 2023 to celebrate their successes and achievements. It was wonderful to spend time with the learners and hear their news about how they are continuing their studies at college; embarking on vocational courses; or entering the world of work – and to hear about their aspirations and ambitions for the future.

At MMHS, we focus not only on academic outcomes but also on developing learners as rounded individuals as they engage with our CHANGE ethos. Undoubtedly, the six elements of CHANGE prepare our young people for a life of learning and being able to contribute positively to society. As well as GCSE achievements, during our Awards’ Evening, we always celebrate those learners who have especially demonstrated each CHANGE element throughout their school career.

The following learners earned special recognition for embracing our MMHS CHANGE ethos:

  • Composure Award, for showing great enthusiasm for his learning and exemplary conduct, was presented to Hamzah Remhan
  • High Standards Award was presented to Abigail Mason, who demonstrated relentless and amazing drive and dedication to her learning.
  • Agency Award was presented to Aayan Rafiq, as he applied himself to every challenge and used his initiative to improve his learning and knowledge. Aayan is now supporting current Year 11 learners as a D6 coach and he is inspiring them to explore and develop their own agency skills.
  • Numeracy and Literacy Award, for demonstrating exceptional understanding of numeracy and literacy, was presented to  Aaminah Choudary
  • Growth Mindset Award, for endeavour and  dedication in all of her subjects and demonstrating great effort in independent learning, was presented to Eman Akhtar
  • Empathy Award was presented to Frankie Konowalski, who always took the time to engage with others, and showed kindness and sensitivity to everyone around him; Frankie is a credit to MMHS.

MMHS also presented two special awards.

Firstly, the RSFC Award was presented to Shafi Hanif for academic excellence.

Finally, the Bernie Clitheroe Award was given in honour of the contribution of Bernie Clitheroe, PE teacher at MMHS (1992 – 2018), to celebrate her years of endeavour in developing and encouraging young people to widen their horizons and participate in extracurricular activities.

Bernie’s sister, Geraldine, presented the award to two learners who demonstrated the spirit and growth mindset of Bernie during their time at MMHS. The  Bernie Clitheroe Award was presented to Beth Ashton and Mohammed Ali

It was a delightful evening and we wish the Class of 2023 all the best in their future endeavours.
