From Passionate Pupil to Inspiring Educator: Ebony’s Journey Full Circle

When Ebony left school, she was driven by a deep love for science – a spark first ignited during her time at Matthew Moss High School. Today, she is back where her journey began, but with a whole new perspective: supporting the next generation of learners as a Teaching Assistant.

Ebony’s academic path began at Marland Hill Primary School before she moved on to Matthew Moss High School. It was during her secondary school years that her passion for science truly took off. Studying Triple Science, she found an incredible source of inspiration in her teacher, Ms White, whose engaging lessons helped her discover a genuine love for the subject.

“The staff at Matthew Moss were incredibly supportive throughout my education and always encouraged me to aim higher and believe in my abilities. Their support motivated me to continue my studies”

Driven by that encouragement, Ebony pursued her passions at college, studying Psychology, Biology, and Chemistry, before taking her studies even further at university, where she earned her degree in Infectious Diseases. University offered her a fantastic opportunity to explore a subject she was passionate about, build deep subject knowledge, and develop valuable lifelong skills.

However, as her journey progressed, Ebony realised just how much she valued the vibrant school environment and the profound, positive impact that education has on young people.

When the opportunity arose, she decided to return to Matthew Moss High School – this time as a member of staff.

“Returning to a place that played a part in my own education feels particularly special. I genuinely love my job and enjoy supporting students with their learning, helping them overcome challenges and encouraging them to reach their potential. My journey has allowed me to experience education from both sides, first as a student and now as a member of staff, and I am proud of the path I have taken.”

Looking back, Ebony appreciates just how much the care and belief of her teachers shaped her future. Now, as a Teaching Assistant, she comes to work every day eager to pay that encouragement forward – helping current students build confidence, believe in themselves, and aim high.

Ebony’s story is a wonderful reminder of the lasting impact a supportive teacher can have. We are delighted to welcome her back to the Watergrove Trust family, where she is now helping today’s learners discover their own passions and possibilities.
