Dulce et Decorum Est
Today Year 8 learners took part in a WW1 workshop presented by Bill, who has visited Matthew Moss to teach our learners about WW1. Students wandered from table to table picking up and interacting with various items that you’d find present at the western front; ranging from artillery shells, rations, entrenching tools and even a life-sized replica of a British Lewis machine gun!
Bill chose two of our Year 8 students to dress up in era-accurate uniforms (British and British Indian army) and told the story of two soldiers who fought for the UK during WW1 and what their experiences at the front were like; from recruitment to training to battle.
Our students were very much immersed in the history of it all and this small glimpse of The Great War got them asking questions and inquiring about various things like the size of trenches or recruits lying about their age.
