Modern Foreign Languages

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, this goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.” Nelson Mandela

Modern Foreign Languages Overview:

At Matthew Moss we really love languages, and believe studying a language can actually change your life! Languages can be useful in so many ways, from going on holiday, to using them in your job, or simply having fun and meeting new people.

After a lot of research into more effective methods of language learning, we decided that we would use the Michel Thomas method of language learning.  In each module, we learn new grammatical structures and language, to be able to build on and develop a good understanding of language learning, and create good quality French sentences. This method has had an extremely positive impact on learning and also on GCSE results at KS4.

Our learners study French in Year 7 and 8 (4 lessons per week), and in Year 9 (3 lessons). In class, you will be introduced to new language, play language games and use the computers to practice and improve your use of the language. We have an impressive suite of languages classrooms which comprise of one classroom, two PC suites and a diverse space with comfortable seating and ipads, which enables learners to engage in activities such as, QR code translations and Kahoot online quizzes.

In order to fulfil the requirements of the Government’s new ‘Progress 8’ performance measure, the majority of learners will continue studying French at GCSE as this contributes to the Ebacc qualification.

We study AQA French Syllabus at KS4 - further information can be found at:
